I live in New York. Pay less than most of them and live alone. With such amenities as my own bathroom and kitchen. Lol. I think this is mainly a story of people dead set on living in certain neighborhoods. I'll happily take my 35min $2.90 train ride if I desperately need to be in midtown or the village for whatever reason. So long as i have an actual apartment.
