CEO probably found out AI can do 99 of his job, and assumed this extended to lower-lvl employees
Ex-Salesforce employee here. I didn't get laid off, but what I will say is that the AI-driven project I was working on heavily and spending countless hours on ended up being sunsetted. And honestly, everything was being rushed without a second thought. After one thing would be created, another thing would break, and if that thing was fixed, another thing would break. It was disaster after disaster. Manager sucked and never understood just how absurd some of these requests were.

Back at the end of 2021, Salesforce had their annual SKO (Sales Kick Off) for the fiscal year. It was the year after lockdown so they wanted to do something in person, but they still wanted it to look like they were being cautious. So, they flew everyone involved out to Vegas (something like a thousand people), put them up in hotel rooms, and had them join the meetings over Zoom. Six months later they laid off like 10,000 people to make a quick buck on the stock exchange. I expect absolutely no logical thinking from these people.

The only thing that could have made this better is if Salesforce just went bankrupt

He'd be fired for such a mistake if he weren't the CEO.

As someone whose employer uses Salesforce, i can 100% say - at least from a developer side, we have never gotten their AI tools to do anything useful.

you mean the guys who haven't written a line of code in a decade (CEOs) bought into the hype, and when the real results started coming in they realized they have no idea how good AI actually is outside of buzzwords on twitter?
no... it couldn't be that
