Every once in a while, riding an old bus here in Thailand, my mind transports back 20 years, being on the same sort of bus, and I realize that nothing has changed about my human perception or the human condition at all, I just allowed myself to be benumbed by the digital void, just as I’m doing now, reaching into the big nothing to find what I clearly know is not just inside me, but is me. All this running from ourselves, this displacement of energy, the distraction. What am I really running from. The fear of death. Or the fear of life?

Waking up has been excellent for my meditation practice and mental health. Thanks Sam!

Oh I LOVE the black jack analogy. Not focusing is like accepting whatever new card is given. Focusing is like keeping the card you have, because if you wait, it might be the thing you need...

The best thing I have done in the last year is put down my phone, put down my kindle and pick up a printed book. It's so enjoyable.

Happy New Year, Sam! We hope it's a very good year and that great thoughts will emerge from your mind that help us understand the frozen chaos that surrounds us like icicles hanging off our noses.

I've been on Waking Up for years now but the Black Jack analogy blew my mind! I love it. "I don't want that card". I've had such horrible thoughts come to mind since I was young that the repulsion already indicated to me "Nope, that can't be right, that's not me not who I am, that's just a thought". So I've had this ability to distance myself from certain thoughts but mostly the horrible, terrible, scary ones. I can try this with any negative thought too. Just a self-loathing, self-doubting thought, or a criticism towards someone I care about, I'd like to try the "Hit me" method! Just great stuff, thank you Sam and Jaron!

Watching in between tv commercials… and I’m aware I’m sucked into all this doing yoga everyday etc
