A person in their 80s, I grew up in a world where the adults had lived before the atomic bomb landed in Japan. Nobody was aware of mutually assured destruction in those days. There were dirt floors in most American homes before the end of the war, before the suburbs. And it wasn't until the polio epidemic that the government started some form of health awareness. In those days, the NRA taught gun safety in our schools. I saw someone used TikTok yesterday. It was the first time I've ever seen anything like that. And I hear young people are addicted to social media and hardly ever talk to another person face-to-face. Thanks for the videos and the effort it takes for you to get them out. In a saner world Vlad would be as big as Jordan Peterson is, and would be the kind of thought leader young men could look up to, and seek to emulate.

This is exactly who I am! 29 years old, going back to college because I dropped out the first time due to mental health issues. My dad died when I was a kid & my step-dad was abusive, & my step-brother committed suicide at 19. Been very depressed since age 15, ADHD/autistic, trauma, alcoholism, eating disorder… very broke with no place to call home. I get too depressed & anxious to interact with people, & it shows. Held me back in life a lot. Seems like no one understands or cares, they just think you’re weird & avoid you. That can lead to a lot of resentment. Seems like the world is cold & uncaring & you don’t matter at all. At least to you it is, or that’s your perception, anyway. But I find it very difficult to trust anybody, emotionally, at all. Not because I want it that way but because it’s sort of automatic. I’ve never had the desire to hurt anybody, though, & I find the alt right authoritarians just appalling. I’m a believer in love, forgiveness, compassion, pluralism, tolerance, limited representative government, human rights, & liberty. I have been down the path of nihilism, cynicism, defeatism, grievance, resentment, & self-hatred, & it destroyed me. It can destroy a society too. It’s also philosophically & factually incorrect. Wishing for more love & compassion in the world!! <3

Without diminishing the exclusion that young men are feeling, the other side of young male risk-taking is that those of us who didn't participate in dumb recklessness are often judged and excluded for being weak or boring (often perceived as equivalent) in not taking those risks.

Your life choices in the past are events that, having lived through them, makes you stronger. I at the age of 60 was diagnosed with adhd after my wife passed away. I am now trying to deal with it
