This “Boring” Padel Overhead Wins More Points Than Any Smash

Open in YouTube
It’s not the flashiest overhead in padel, but at pro level this shot wins more points than the smash. A soft overhead played down the middle - almost like a Bandora - sitting between a vibora and a bandeja. In this video, we break down why this overhead works so well and how you can start using it in your own game instead of forcing low-percentage smashes. If you want to win more points, not impress people, this shot belongs in your toolbox. Watch Premier Padel on Red Bull TV: https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/event-series/premier-padel If you’re new to The Padel School, welcome. We’re Sandy and Tom Farquharson - two brothers and the founders of this platform. Our mission? To give every padel player the best coaching advice possible so you can unlock your full potential on the court. Here’s why we care so much about this… We grew up in tennis, competing from juniors all the way to the pro level. And honestly? It was frustrating. No matter how hard we worked, it was nearly impossible to get the high-quality coaching we needed to reach our full potential. When we discovered padel over a decade ago, we fell in love with the sport instantly. But guess what? The coaching situation was even worse. Getting solid advice in English? Forget it. That’s when we decided enough was enough. As we played on the pro padel circuit and started coaching players across the globe, we realised no player should have to struggle to find clear, actionable guidance – in any sport. Every player deserves access to the knowledge they need to grow, improve, and play the game at their highest level. So we built The Padel School. It’s where we share everything we’ve learned on and off the court. Whether you’re a total beginner or chasing a competitive edge, we’re here to make sure you get the coaching we wish we’d had. To all the padel warriors out there: the road to improvement isn’t easy, but that’s what makes it rewarding. Keep grinding, keep learning, and remember – every point is a new opportunity to get better. I saw this shot so much in pro play I had already started doing it, but getting a full explanation finally helped a lot! Cheers!

Great video Sandy!
@pinkelephantman
I think I discovered this shot by accident when moving from beginner to intermediate level by trying to play a safe bandeja! What it always does is keeps your shot safe and you do not lose the point and often its a winner

played yesterday a high level game (2* top 40 players in my country) - and because they were pushing always to the net, i was either trying to play to the feet - or suddenly "developed" a spin ball without speed to the middle in between them... and it worked wonders, even made ~10 winners with it in the game... as a left sided player funny that today the video comes online... haha

Good advice. For me, communication with your partner is essential to know whether or not in the middle of the court. This also allows us for changes in ball speed, which is very effective.

I've really fallen in love with this shot lately, More so than the por tres! Hitting a well timed Bandora with good speed almost always generates a winner. Will definitely keep this video in mind when deciding on when to use it

I lost many points defending these. Reminds me of the second serve with sidespin from tennis. I’ve seen it hundreds of times watching pros but never really put much attention to it. Gotta learn it too, thanks for the video!

Amazing video! I must say, the Bela Padel Center is uuunreal! Will you have more videos there? People deserve to see it!
@paalpaal1326
It's more in pro padel they don't use the bandeja anymore, they mostly use vibora. This is essentially just a soft vibora down the middle.
@joaovieira6943
Agree with the content of the video ... except the title :) I used to do this shot before, when their lob was good and deep l, but without sidespin ... once I started doing it with sidespin I noticed the reception of the others complicated a lot

100% aggree with the video. It’s a very useful shot and very little talks about it. It actually embodies the most important rule in padel, the right speed to the right place is more important than power. A similar shot can be also useful when the backhand player is defending actually standing in the corner so more space in the middle, can be a good way to move them
@sigma_z
I've won a few points with this already. Always keep the opponents guessing if I'm going for a bandeja, vibora, flat smash or bandora 😂
@FrankieMurray-g8z
Would you say you trying to have a racket path from 11-5 with impact high to the right of the head for a rh players thank you great video
@probablyanotherfun
