Prime Minister Mia Mottley: Climate, Migration, and the Power of Small Nations

Open in YouTube
In this very special bonus episode that’s as smart as it is fun, Trevor goes one-on-one with Barbados' Prime Minister, Mia Mottley. Between lessons on Bajan slang, "road tennis" Olympic dreams, and big ideas on global finance, climate change, and managed migration, Mottley proves she’s a force of nature—though even she can’t score Trevor an invite to Rihanna’s next birthday bash. I am from BARBADOS 🇧🇧 and to wake up at 2:43 am to check the time on my phone and end up seeing Trevor Noah interviewing our prime minister knocked the sleep right out of me... Great interview!

Her use of the word “Regrettably” instead of “Unfortunately” feels so intentional. It’s almost as if most world leaders use the word “Unfortunately” to absolve themselves of responsibility, but “Regrettably” seems like ownership and we can all do something about it. She is truly a powerful leader.

I always click on anything with Mia Mottley, but with Trevor? I was excited. One of the most level headed leaders out there today.

My daughter during the third round of interviews two years ago with the CEO of a company and some directors she was asked "who do you admire as a leader?" She replied, "Mia Mottley." Well, no one in room heard about her. They paused ,and Google Honrable Prime Minister Mia Mottley for 10 minutes. I know you are wondering if got the job. I lived in Barbados and watched Mia Mottley become prime minister and I watched how everything changed. Barbados was on its knees and she took control by going to the heart of each problem personally and understanding what needed to be done. She then worked out how to fix the problem and move onto the next. I saw her multiple times and met her as she went around the country getting things done seven days a week. Through her guidance Barbados received eight credit rating upgrades which is unheard of. She really is special
