How To Stop Seeking Approval

Learn more about the Art of Accomplishment! Find us at https://www.artofaccomplishment.com/ We grow up in a world where seeking approval is assumed, expected. Authority figures (like parents) assume the responsibility of approval or disapproval to teach their offspring how to move through the world. It’s also a kind of currency: it determines who we are, where we belong, what doors open for us. But at some point, some of us begin to wonder—what happens if I stop asking for permission? In this episode, Joe and Brett wrestle with the complexity of approval-seeking and how to break free from it. They explore: The push and pull between belonging and authenticity The weight of societal norms and expectation The way doubt and conditioning pull us from our innate wisdom The necessity of discomfort in the pursuit of true authenticity The somatic cues that indicate when we are honoring our truth—or avoiding it Practical exercises for cultivating self-approval X: fu_joehudson Instagram: JoeHudson_AOA Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3ezSoop Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3ETrfHA Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3Czx7Tu Other platforms: https://artofaccomplishment.com/podcast #artofaccomplishment #podcast #joehudson

Grateful for the host/facilitator. By the questions he ask you can tell he has done the inner “work” himself. What an honor to watch both

Yikes! Had a big realisation at 20:28. The 3 main reasons people are not following their truth are 1) Doubt 2) Fear of the consequences 3) Justifying behaviour I can now see what is at the root of my hesitation to speak my truth. Off to let that sink in 🙌

26:00 I started saying "I don't know what to say or feel" when I don't know what to say or feel. I guess that is the truth at that moment.

Having recently started feeling my heart after 3 months of somatic/body scan meditation, this is not only validating but feels like a roadmap to continue my growth out of this. Thanks guys.

To stay grounded and having a open heart is in my experience an impossible task for most people. I've spend the last 4 years working very deliberately on getting contact to my body. 2 years ago I got the first experiences of an open heart but how to get to that on am every day basis is still very difficult for me

To follow your truth you need to hear the feedback to your truth, which is why this is a truly personal experience and cannot just be read or told. Just like you can’t really learn to Swim in a library. You need to get “wet”. Hence hearing feedback, tuning, fine tuning are all needed. It doesn’t mean you have to change your truth to suit others, it just means that if you defend your truth to the point you can ignore the naysayers, it IS your truth.

How you said “I had this client, very successful, she had an alcoholic father” and I never understand why some of us went through similar things and have felt debilitated in life, but others can become successful. Me AND my two older sisters (me 27, one sister 30, other sister 33) are all struggling and working BS jobs, not getting ahead, don’t have loving/healthy relationships, etc. What is it about us that we haven’t been able to overcome enough to live normal lives or be adults?
