Entering America's Most Conservative Amish Town

Drew Binsky
Open in YouTube
In this eye-opening story, I explore the lives of the Swartzentruber Amish - the most conservative subgroup of Old Order Amish. They arguably lead the most conservative and traditional lives of any humans on our planet. I gotta say, even after visiting all 197 countries in the world, I found the Swartzentruber Amish to be among the most fascinating groups of people I've come in contact with. And it's in my own country! Through my friend Lizzie, a former Swartzentruber Amish who grew up in Holmes County, Ohio, I gained rare access to this secluded community that is off-limits to outsiders. Join me as we learn first-hand from the Swartzentruber Amish, as well as get a deep dive into Lizzie's childhood as she remembers it. Nowadays, Lizzie is an incredible entrepreneur and runs her own business in the health & wellness industry. You can follow her journey on the links below: - IG: https://www.instagram.com/lizzieens_wellness - YT:@lizzieenswellness - Get her newly launched book! https://amzn.to/3LfyxaP Here's a little more information on the Swartzentruber Amish: They are renowned for their extreme adherence to tradition and rejection of modern conveniences. They maintain the strictest rules regarding technology, shunning electricity, indoor plumbing, and even bicycles. Their church services are marathon-like, often lasting up to six hours, emphasizing their deep spiritual devotion to God. What makes the Swartzentruber Amish even more fascinating and shocking is their commitment to living without modern healthcare, relying solely on traditional remedies and community support. They also practice rigorous schooling and they complete education at the 8th grade, focusing instead on practical skills and Amish traditions. I'd love to hear from you guys! While many of you guys may disagree with the Swartzentruber Amish way of life, I actually found it to be quite refreshing. Their commitment to sustainable living and self-sufficiency is something that Iโ€™ve rarely seen outside of indigenous tribes in Africa. I also admire the way that the Swartzentrubers prioritize family, faith, and hard work, giving a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment. Lastly, while WE THINK their lives are extreme, they have no idea that other ways of life exist. So who are we to judge? Would love to hear your thoughts down below if you agree or disagree with the Swartzentruber Amish way of life. Thanks for watching!

Some days I donโ€™t even feel like throwing a frozen pizza in the oven and this lady is over here raising 19 kids all by herself, making food from scratch and handwashing everything. Beyond incredible

She left the life but she still identifies as an Amish, she is very proud of her roots. Very admirable. Really great girl.

I hope she knows how lucky she is that her family still talks to her. You can tell her mother is a good person because she's so sweet and down to earth

I live in the area effected by Hurricane Helene. The Amish that have come here to volunteer have been amazing. Thank you to the Amish.

Raised 19 kids by herself!? Thatโ€™s amazing. I sometimes complain about raising 1, with my wife!

Her mom is amazing for many reasons, she accepts her back to visit, she raise all these children alone ? Like seriously how? Can you interview her? Single mom here and I can barely raise one child on my own. This made me cry

I drive for the Amish here in S.W. Michigan. Some of the greatest people I have EVER known. My wife of almost 26 years just passed away 6/3/24 and the love and support I have received from our Amish friends was amazing. I couldn't ask for better people to be friends with.

Notice how every single thing in that house is immaculate? The stove, the washer, the water pump... everything looks brand spanking new because they keep everything in perfect working order and cleanliness.
